Tips for efficient utilization of heat transfer paper

In order to enhance adhesion and color quality, state-of-the-art heat transfer printing technology is employed. This is a technology that could be used on different materials. One of the decisisve factors to the success of this is the utilization of heat transfer paper.

What is heat transfer paper?

Heat transfer paper is specially designed for this technology. It is characterized by extraordinary ink adhesion and heat resistance thanks to a thick layer of wax and pigment polymer film allowing manufacturers to print on such surfaces like wood, glaze, ceramic or glass, etc.

Notes on heat transfer paper

Heat transfer paper possesses outstanding advantages against normal paper. As such, it is necessary to use it in the right way to ensure color quality.

Place the right side of the paper

Unlike normal printing paper, heat transfer paper differentiates the printing side, which has a thinly coated powder allowing colors to quickly transfer onto the materials.

Many would be confused as which side of the paper is the right one. The easiest way to find out is to base yourself on the color and sense. First, the printing side has a fine powder coat and opalescent color. The other side is normally coarse and yellowish.

It is only by placing the right side of the paper on the printing tray that colors are best ensured. This the very first and most important principle for heat transfer printing.

Reverse image

Images to be printed on any materials from textile, wood to glass or ceramics… must ensure quality, i.e. sharpness and size.

An important note in heat transfer printing is to reverse the printing image since they will rotate 180 degrees during pressing on the substrates.

However, thanks to the increasingly modern technology, there certain types of heat transfer paper that do not require the reversing process such as the dark heat transfer paper or the dye sublimation paper.

Once the inks have been sprayed on the heat transfer paper, it is the time to press it onto the substrate’s surface. In a pressing machine, operator needs to select the right pressing mode since each surface like textile, wood or ceramics requires a different pressing power.

Besides, time and temperature are also decisive in image quality. Higher-than-necessary temperature and inappropriate time would definitely result in undesired color outcomes.

Heat transfer paper brings about great results in providing sharp colors on diverse surfaces from paper, wood to ceramics and glass. To ensure quality, operators need to strictly follow the above printing notes. For more information and consultation on this printing service, please do not hesitate to contact Kim Hoang Co. Ltd.
